چکیده

As pixel sizes approach the diffraction limit, optical and carrier crosstalk will increase substantially. Very high crosstalk leads to a reduction in SNR and color reproduction quality when conventional color filter arrays (CFAs) such as the Bayer patterns (RGB and CMY) are used. We present the design and analysis of new color filter array patterns for improving the color error and SNR deterioration caused by crosstalk in these sub-diffraction-limit (SDL) pixels.

Plasmonic color filters for CMOS image sensor applications.

We report on the optical properties of plasmonic hole arrays as they apply to requirements for plasmonic color filters designed for state-of-the-art Si CMOS image sensors. The hole arrays are composed of hexagonally packed subwavelength sized holes on a 150 nm Al film designed to operate at the primary colors of red, green, and blue. Hole array plasmonic filters show peak transmission in the 40...

Demosaicking: Color Filter Array Interpolation in Single-Chip Digital Cameras

Digital cameras have become popular and many people are choosing to take their pictures with digital cameras instead of film cameras. When a digital image is recorded, the camera needs to perform a significant amount of processing to provide the user a viewable image. This processing includes white balance adjustment, gamma correction, compression and more (reference “Color Image Processing Pip...

Optical Performances of Lensless Sub- 2micron Pixel for Application in Image Sensors

In this paper we will report on the optical performances of submicron planar lensless pixels arranged in the 2 × 2 Bayer cell configuration, the basic element of CMOS colour image sensors. The 2D microlens array placed in front of each pixel in commercial devices has been replaced by a 2D array of submicron holes realised on a thin metal film. Each pixel has been designed to present a lightpipe...

Colorization-Based RGB-White Color Interpolation using Color Filter Array with Randomly Sampled Pattern

Recently, several RGB-White (RGBW) color filter arrays (CFAs) have been proposed, which have extra white (W) pixels in the filter array that are highly sensitive. Due to the high sensitivity, the W pixels have better SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) characteristics than other color pixels in the filter array, especially, in low light conditions. However, most of the RGBW CFAs are designed so that th...

Color filter array patterns for small-pixel image sensors with substantial cross talk.

Digital image sensor outputs usually must be transformed to suit the human visual system. This color correction amplifies noise, thus reducing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the image. In subdiffraction-limit (SDL) pixels, where optical and carrier cross talk can be substantial, this problem can become significant when conventional color filter arrays (CFAs) such as the Bayer patterns (RGB ...
